Something for the Weekend – 20/06/10

Good morning,

First, I apologise for not adding the Something for the Weekend recipes to our blog over the last few weekends but things have been pretty busy here at The Cocktail Store with a few new developments.  Anyway, I watched Something for the Weekend this weekend and it was Fathers Day of course! They made two great cocktails, I have tried both and the Eccentric Old Fashioned is a strong drink, so be aware of that prior to making.  Anyway here they are…

Raspberry Mojito

- 6 Fresh Mint Leaves

- 4 Frech Raspberries

- 20ml freshly squeezed lime juice

- 1 tsp sugar syrup

- 1 tbsp of black raspberry liqueur

- 35ml Golden rum

- Splash of ginger ale to top up

Method

Place the mint leaves and raspberries into a highball glass. Add some ice.  Add the lime juice, sugar syrup, black raspberry liqueur and golden rum. Stir well with a long-handled spoon.  Top up the cocktail with ginger ale. Garnish the glass with the mint sprig and a raspberry.

Eccentric Old Fashioned

Spiced Apple & Clove Syrup

- 1 small jar of ready made chunky apple sauce

- Pinch of All Spice

- 4 Cloves, cracked

- 25ml Apple juice

For the cocktail

- 7.5cm piece of orange peel

- 2 dashes of Angostura Bitters

- 1 tbsp of spiced apple and clove syrup ^See above

- 50ml of single malt whisky

- 1 piece of lemon peel

Method

For the spiced apple and clove syrup, heat the apple sauce, allspice and cloves in a saucepan over a medium heat, stirring well, for 4-5 minutes, or until the mixture has reduced to a syrup. Add apple juice, if necessary, to loosen the mixture.  Strain the syrup mixture through a fine sieve, then pour into a sterilised jar. Seal and set aside to cool. Once cool, store in the fridge and use when required.

For the cocktail, add the orange peel, bitters, spiced apple and clove syrup and whisky to a large tumbler. Add ice cubes and stir slowly. Garnish the glass with a twist of lemon peel.

Well that’s all for this weekends recipes but be sure to check back for some great Wimbledon cocktails as it starts this week!!
Hope you all had a great Fathers day!

Until Next Time, thanks for reading
